Mansyur Daman was born in Jakarta. Since he was a child, Mansyur had been attracted to the art of comics, in particular wayang comics created by R.A. Kosasih and S. Ardisoma. Mansyur then learnt his drawing skills from a painting artist during his teen age. Once Mansyur graduated from high school in 1964, publisher Rose recognized his talents and asked him to draw the cover and illustrations of a novel. He then worked for the publisher, where he met Jan Mintaraga.
In 1965, Mansyur started his comic creations, mostly horror genre and a Betawi martial arts comic, Si Tompel. Mansyur later created his most famous martial arts warrior character, Mandala. His first Mandala comic was titled Golok Setan and the comic was published under his abbreviated name Man. Mandala and his adventures was later made into three movies and a TV series.
Man is still continuing his art works, including for international publications.
