Ganes Thiar Santosa was born in Tangerang, Banten. His talent for drawing was very apparent when he was a student at THHK (Tiong Hoa Hwee Koan) junior high school . Young Ganes even created the logo and brand of a small restaurant with a bowl of porridge as the payment. Ganes later enrolled in ASRI Jogjakarta but financial difficulties forced him to quit his college study. He then joined a painting course and became the assistant of the famous Indonesian painter, Lee Man Fong.
In 1965, Ganes started to draw comics and published them under the name of Ganes TH. His works culminated in the creation of the phenomenal martial arts warrior character Si Buta Dari Gua Hantu. In 1969, Si Buta Dari Gua Hantu movie was made and became the first martial arts movie in Indonesia. The comic works of Ganes TH continued their success with more than a million copies sold to date.
Ganes TH passed way on 10 December 1995.
