Raden Ahmad Kosasih was born in Bogor. Coming from a noble family, Kosasih received a good education. After graduating from school, Kosasih spent his time drawing and watching wayang golek. In 1939, Kosasih worked at the Bogor Agriculture Department (Departement van Landbouw) as an artist drawing animals and plants. Kosasih then worked as a comic artist for the publishing company Melodie, where he created the very first Indonesian character, Sri Asih, in 1954 under the name RA Kosasih. Due to the popularity of Sri Asih, Kosasih later created another female superhero, Siti Gahara. Kosasih is also well known in Indonesia for his puppet comic series, the Mahabarata and Ramayana Trilogy. On July 24, 2012, RA Kosasih passed away.
