Nono GM, whose real name is Gun Mardiono, was born in Yogyakarta. As the eldest of six siblings, all of whom enjoyed drawing, Nono was the only one who focused on creating comics. Nono studied at SESSRI (Indonesian School of Fine Arts) to deepen his knowledge of comic art. In 1975, Nono created a comic featuring a female superhero, Tira, as the main character. This marked Nono's first venture into comic drawing. In 1989, Nono suffered a stroke that paralyzed his right hand. However, Nono continued to draw using his left hand. He created illustrations for school books and local newspapers. Nono passed away in 1999.
