JakartaPT Melon Indonesia (a subsidiary of Telkom Group) joins forces with Bumilangit Entertainment through Indonesia’s first MOBA esports game, Lokapala. Lokapala is largely known for basing its Ksatriya characters on Indonesian historical and mythological figures, making this collaboration integral to the development of Indonesia’s intellectual property assets.

Through the strategic collaboration of Melon x Bumilangit, a new Ksatriya is introduced in the Lokapala gaming universe: the titular character from Indonesia’s beloved silat comic series, Si Buta dari Gua Hantu. This renowned martial art warrior was first created by the comic artist Ganes TH in 1967 and has been printed up to 500 thousand copies since then.

The success of the comic series led Si Buta dari Gua Hantu to be adapted into 7 feature films and 2 Indonesian television series. After more than 50 years, this character’s legacy lives on digital comics and games made by young creators with impressive international track records. Furthermore, Bumilangit has picked up Si Buta dari Gua Hantu to be its own standalone film in the Bumilangit Cinematic Universe with Timo Tjahjanto attached as its director.

Si Buta dari Gua Hantu follows the story of a man named Barda Mandrawata who is looking to avenge the death of his father and fiancé, Marni. Barda was forced to blind his eyes in order to defeat the Angel Eyes group, led by the powerful blind criminal, Mandraguna.

Barda’s journey takes him to various corners of Indonesia’s archipelago and is involved in various historical events. He is also armed with a stick made of stones and a fighting robe of giant snake scales guarding the Ghost Cave, with his trusted companion by his side, a monkey named Wanara (aka Kliwon). With each challenge, Barda develops into a mighty warrior named Si Buta dari Gua Hantu.

Coinciding with Mr. Ganes TH’s (the creator of Si Buta dari Gua Hantu) birthday this month, Si Buta dari Gua Hantu stages a comeback with successful appearances in various media, culminating in its introduction as a character in Lokapala. Lokapala is Indonesia’s first Multiplayer Battle Arena (MOBA) e-sports game is developed by Anantarupa and published by PT Melon Indonesia (a subsidiary of Telkom Group).

As Lokapala’s latest Ksatriya, Si Buta dari Gua Hantu possesses the ability to “see” with his voice and heart. He is called upon by the Ancient Ones to fight with other Ksatriyas in the Lokapala world.

Bismarka Kurniawan, as Founder and CEO of Bumilangit Entertainment Corpora, said, “The appointment of Si Buta dari Gua Hantu in the Indonesian-made game, Lokapala, is a momentum that Indonesian characters such as Si Buta dari Gua Hantu can stand side by side with international characters in the form of cutting-edge digital games”.

Si Buta dari Gua Hantu has been around for more than 5 decades, and in this digital era, it is the right time for Bumilangit to collaborate with Melon Indonesia as one of the leading digital platform providers from Indonesia, to further introduce and present this legendary character to the next generation of the nation,” he continued.

Dedi Suherman as CEO of PT Melon Indonesia also added, “There have been many requests from the gamers community. They really want original Indonesian characters to enter Lokapala and we see this as a potential attractive collaboration with BumiLangit because Si Buta dari Gua Hantu himself has never been used as a character in any game.”

With the presence of Ksatriya Si Buta dari Gua Hantu in the Lokapala game, it is hoped that the Indonesian creative industry can advance together for the better and become a means of developing Indonesia’s intellectual property in the future through games and film series.

“This collaboration is not limited to the game publishing business; it is open to other businesses in Melon Indonesia as a Digital Entertainment Company, such as music and OTT videos,” continued Dedi.
