| #GundalaFanArt Has Amassed 4.150 Sketches and Drawings

Public enthusiasm and support for Gundala continue to flow. Fan-made Gundala-themed sketches and paintings are some unique ways for fans to support the film. To date, there have been more than 4.000 uploads of #GundalaFanArt on social media.

Lots of well-known names in the creative industry have also joined the campaign. One of the most notable participants is the world-class illustrator who was actively drawing for Marvel and DC Comics, David Ross. Ross, now based in Toronto, is making an illustration of Gundala with his own drawing style.

David Ross is famous for his works with Marvel, namely Iron Man and Avengers Infinity Gauntlet, Avengers West Coast, Marvel Knights: Daredevil, and Inhumans. He was also known for his works in DC Comics under the titles Batman: Bruce Wayne – Fugitive Vol. 1 and JSA: All Stars.

Ross is quite familiar with Indonesian comics and has met Hasmi when visiting Indonesia. “I first met Hasmi in 1988. What I remember most about Hasmi was his enthusiasm. Very contagious!” He said through a press release received on Thursday (6/27/2019).

The impression is contagious and made a mark on him. “I am a comic artist, but I am also a Gundala fan,” Ross said. He also explained the reason he drew the Gundala film fan art, “I like the new look of Gundala. The costume looks cool. And from the perspective of an artist, any character that can throw lightning from his body would be very fun to draw. “

Regarding his hopes for the Gundala film, he said, “I hope this film can achieve great success and can be watched by people outside of Indonesia.

These thousands of fan art will be curated to be exhibited prior to the screening of Gundala film throughout Indonesia. Appreciation from the world of painting and sketches to the film adaptation of Hasmi’s work shows that Gundala is loved by various generations and circles.

In addition to illustrations, the film ‘Gundala’ also invites artists in other fields to participate in celebrating the film’s launch. Music artists were also invited to make a Gundala theme song with any genre and type of music, as long as it contains the word ‘Gundala’. Out of this campaign, 3 songs had been chosen to be included in the closing credit of the film.

Gundala was produced by Bumilangit Studios and Screenplay Films in collaboration with Legacy Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment. It has aired in Indonesian theaters starting on 29 August 2019. ‘Gundala’ film was written and directed by Joko Anwar. Gundala is portrayed by Abimana Aryasatya. The return of Hasmi’s character to the big screen is expected to show the new generation that Indonesia has a hero to be proud of.

On the international stage, Gundala has managed to penetrate the Toronto International Film Festival along with some of the world’s most awaited films this year, including Todd Phillips’s JOKER, RADIOACTIVE from Marjane Satrapi, and KNIVES OUT, starring Chris Evans and Daniel Craig. Gundala will compete with other films for the People’s Choice Awards. It will be the only Southeast Asian film screened in the Midnight Madness program of the festival.
