Is Yuniarto was born in Semarang. Is started his interest in drawing comics since he was a child. He was very active in participating in various comic drawing exhibitions and competitions while still studying at the Visual Communication Design department, Kristen Petra University, Surabaya. Is's first comic was Wind Rider (a collaboration with John G Reinhart) in 2005, published by Elex Media Komputindo. Receiving a lot of praise from local comic fans, Wind Rider was nominated for the Komikasia Award in 2005 in three different categories: Best Cover, Best Character, and Best Comic. Then in 2007-2009, Is published the Knights of Apocalypse comic trilogy (together with John G Reinhart and Aswin Agastya) as well as his famous comic Garudayana. Is also created Spirit of Nusantara, the first manga comic about martial artists from various parts of the archipelago.
