Ganes Thiar Santosa was born in Tangerang, Banten. His talent for drawing was already apparent when he was in junior high school at THHK (Tiong Hoa Hwee Koan). Young Ganes even created the logo and brand of a small restaurant with a bowl of porridge as payment. Ganes then enrolled at ASRI Jogjakarta, but financial difficulties forced him to drop out. He then joined a painting course and became an assistant to the famous Indonesian painter Lee Man Fong. In 1965, Ganes began drawing comics and publishing them under the name Ganes TH. His works culminated with the creation of the phenomenal martial arts character, Si Buta Dari Gua Hantu. In 1969, the movie Si Buta Dari Gua Hantu was made and became the first silat movie in Indonesia. Ganes TH's comics continued his success, selling more than one million copies to date. Ganes TH passed away on December 10, 1995.
