In revenging the death of his father and his fiancee, Barda Mandrawata self-blinded his eyes to defeat Mata Malaikat (“Angel Eyes”), a highly-skilled blind nemesis. Barda became a legendary warior known as Si Buta dari Gua Hantu. In his stories, Si Buta was a wanderer, travelling around many parts of the country accompanied by his loyal monkey, Wanara.
